This short break offers a profound journey through World War I history, starting in Ypres with visits to Tyne Cot Cemetery, Vancouver Corner, and Langemarck German Cemetery, followed by a lunch in Hooge and a powerful exploration of the Sanctuary Wood Trench Museum. The day ends with the moving Last Post ceremony at the Menin Gate. The next day, you’ll explore the Somme battlefields, beginning at the Thiepval Memorial, then visiting the massive Lochnagar Mine Crater and the preserved trenches at Beaumont-Hamel, before concluding at Vimy Ridge to see the iconic Canadian Memorial honouring those who fought there.

Tour itinerary:

Ypres - Begin your day with a visit to Tyne Cot Cemetery, the largest Commonwealth war grave site in the world, followed by a stop at Vancouver Corner, where the first gas attacks occurred in World War I. Continue to the Langemarck German Cemetery, a sombre and moving tribute to the German soldiers who fell in the Ypres Salient. After lunch in Hooge, explore the Sanctuary Wood Trench Museum, offering a powerful insight into the trench warfare experience. In the evening, spend time in Ypres, where the day concludes with the poignant Last Post ceremony at the Menin Gate, honouring the fallen with a moment of remembrance.

The Somme - Today we head to the Thiepval Memorial, a powerful tribute to the missing soldiers of the Somme, where rows of inscribed names evoke the scale of sacrifice. Continue to the dramatic Lochnagar Mine Crater, a vast reminder of the destructive force unleashed on the first day of the Battle of the Somme. Then visit Beaumont-Hamel, where preserved trenches offer a vivid glimpse into the battlefield experience of the Newfoundland Regiment. In the afternoon, explore the historic site of Vimy Ridge, where the impressive Canadian Memorial stands in honor of those who fought and fell in one of Canada's most significant military victories.
